I have been waiting for this. Because I knew right away what my answer to this would be.
DAY 7: Game With TheMost SurprisingBest Plot Twist
WARNING: Spoilers... for OTHER games than the one in question. :V

This is not really the most intriguing plot twist. This isn't even really the best-written plot-twist. For some really compelling, twisty plot, I recommend Vagrant Story. No, what Star Ocean: TTEOT is, however, is the downright best plot twist... because it is basically tri-Ace laughing in your face as they troll you a third or even fourth time straight.
See, the Star Ocean series is known for basically punching the player square in the dick at the beginning of the final act of the game. In the first Star Ocean, you unleash some sort of alien time-travelling virus that starts turning everyone you ever knew into inanimate statues. In the second one, the entire planet you are on, including everybody BUT your party, is basically atomized for no reason whatsoever except that the bad guys had a bad day and could.
Star Ocean 3 is a flawed game. It has a lot of good carryovers from the first two games, but the retarded MP death mechanic combined with some of the WORST ally AI in anything real-time ever (up to and including burning through the aforementioned MP like oh so many joints) lead to a frustrating experience.... and then, THAT plot twist.
I won't spoil it, oh no. If you've played the game or even heard about the game, you already know of that plot twist. It's the reason that so many fans gave up the game, and further yet, the reason a large chunk of Star Ocean's fandom swore off the series for good. It's out of left field like most of the Star Ocean series crotchpunches. It makes no damn sense whatsoever and is so riddled with potential paradoxes and plotholes as to be almost rage-inducing. And it, ultimately, is pulled for no good reason.
It is so horrible, so blatantly retarded, that it is clearly the most epic trolling by a video game script writer ever. It is the Space Mutiny of video game plots. It's so horrible, it is golden and will be forever remembered.
God bless you, you crazy fucking game.

... I couldn't even finish the game. I got so sick of Albel using up almost all of his MP in almost every battle and also of power leveling so I can get more trophies when fighting bosses. I just youtube'd all the endings. DX

*all according to keikaku*
*translator's note: keikaku means plan*
See, this is why I think this plot twist is the best. What other video game has elicited THIS sort of reaction literally A HANDFUL OF HOURS AWAY from the ending in an otherwise forty to fifty hour game?
