We've all heard of the Self-Imposed Challenge, right? Basically, doing something retardedly restrictive in order to milk more replay value out of a game; to this date there are only two games I've liked enough to do this on: Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2 (bangaa-only runs are kind of hard) and Link To The Past (No-sword runs are FUN AS HELL)

Well, now there is a third.

Most of you have not heard of what has been dubbed in the Pokemon Community as the "Nuzlocke Challenge". Named due to the trendsetter being a fan of Lost and having a little too much free time on his hands (and a stray 4chan tripcode), it leaked quite readily into 4chan /v/ and later into the pokemon community as it were. The rules are simple, but painful, like in all self-imposed challenges. Only the first two are ironclad, any after that are user-set. I am doing that because I am crazy. (Ones in bold are my personal harder tweaks for this particular run.)

And yes, I am doing this post so that I don't forget my rules.

1. If a pokemon faints, it is considered dead, gone, kaput. You can't use it again, and you must release it as soon as possible. Obviously, if you run out of usable pokemon, you must scrap the game/run completely. To keep a running record of which mons have been used, I've put them in a special "YOU DEAD" box. Not gonna use 'em, either way.
2. You can ONLY catch the first pokemon you encounter in a route/cave/town/area (You get the idea). If you defeat the first pokemon you see in an area, to steal a phrase from [livejournal.com profile] hcuz and [livejournal.com profile] postaldude, TOO BAD LOLXH. In the case of Eterna Forest, either of the first two wild pokemon encountered count.
3. Healing with the item command during battles is forbidden. Gym leaders are cheating bastards, that's the entire reason that they are Gym leaders. They did not get where they are by playing by your rules.
4. In addition, healing items may only be used if found, never bought.
5. If your first pokemon is a duplicate/different evolution stage of one already owned, trainer must choose which of the two to use, and release the other. This still counts as the first pokemon encountered in the area, and thus eliminates a chance of future pokemon catching. Fucking bidoofs.
6. If a pokemon is reduced to 1 HP outside of battle due to poison, it is considered fainted, and thus, dead.
7. There is no such thing as HM Slaves. HMs will be taught to Pokemon on an as-needed basis.
8. Fuck the official rules, if I find a shiny, I am catching that bitch and transferring it to my Soul Silver game. The trade fodder pokemon sent to Platinum will afterwards be released.

I'll post updates here if this turns out interesting. If not, well... Ah well. *shrug*

Yeah, Pokecenters are free for use. Grinding for levels is discouraged unless needed. Rule 5 is put into place so that I don't end up as a trainer with FIVE STARLYS or something. (I've already lost one pokemon catch that way. fucking starlys)

I put the first one into play because it'd be too easy after a point to just pump money into full heals and hyper potions and cheese through the game.
