Please note that all entries are as of me "discovering" this year, and may involve games/media that were made before then.

First Fandom of 2009: Looking at my entries into RPs and posts on journals and logs and whatnot, it was Touhou. I got into the meme half of the series in late 2008, but I only got into the actual GAMES come Januaryish. And once I started playing those, the shmup enthusiast in me joined hands with the crack fandom enthusiast in me, and I was hooked.

Favorite Main Character of 2009: Bowser, who goes past "main series villain" and into "playable character DONE RIGHT" (looking at you, whiny pussy SMRPG!Bowser - you DO NOT COUNT) in Bowser's Inside Story. Much like in the American Super Mario cartoons, BIS!Bowser is a jackass. He knows it. He revels in it. He's a bad guy, why should he WANT to change?

Favorite Villain of 2009: EDIT: It was originally slated to be this guy from some MegaTen game, but then I realized I had more come into my life than just video games, and this specific entry didn't specify. After originally making the entry, I realized, hey, there was a movie I saw recently with the BEST VILLAIN EVER. Namely, I speak of Dr. Facilier from Princess and the Frog. One part Jafar, one part Scar, three parts Baron Samedi, the man just oozes class. And may possibly have the best Disney Villain song ever.

Favorite Video Game Character of 2009: Guildmaster Wigglytuff from the PMD games. The end of his side-story may be the only time in years I've actually WIBBLED at a video game. Wigglytuff knows better than you might think, yes he does. Stupidity and optimism aren't the same thing.

Favorite Game of 2009: Rhythm Heaven. WARIO WARE MEETS RHYTHM ACTION, COME ON MAN IT WAS OBVIOUS.

Favorite Het Couple of 2009: One of those RP couples that you'd think would have no grounding in any sort of logic ever, but works fantastically - Neku Sakuraba from TWEWY and Chidori Kuruma from Ayashi no Ceres/Ceres, Celestial Legend. It's still puppy love in the RP in question, but they have a chemistry that just seems to work, kind of like how people say Neku/Shiki works in canon except with less self-esteem issues.

Favorite Yuri Couple of 2009: MAGNETSHIPPING FTMFW. Er, that is to say, Miku Hatsune / Luka MargarineMegurine. If you don't understand, just click.

Favorite Yaoi Couple of 2009: I won't mention names since it's a RP-related crack pairing, and I don't want to reveal said RP to those who aren't in the know. However, I will simply say it is Sonic-fandom based, and the phrase "WHY ARE YOU IN MY ASS GET OUT GET OUT GET OUT." holds special meaning.

Fandom That You Never Expected To Get Into: Vocaloids. Dear lord, the Vocaloid fandom. You'd never think that a fandom would form around what amounts to a fancified anime-ized voice synthesizer program would be so huge and batshit crazy, but it IS. It doesn't help that so many people picked up the Miku version of the program and started using it without having the slightest idea what the fuck they were doing, leading to a bunch of really, really shitty renditions of otherwise decent songs on Youtube (and a much lesser extent NicoNico)... But until recently I rather assumed that most Vocaloid RPers were playing glorified OCs. Oh, how wrong I was. Or how right, if you consider characterizations as something of a hiveminded OC made by the Japanese/American animoo-loving collective.

Fandom That Made An Unexpected Comeback: The Mario fandom, specifically revolving around the Mario & Luigi games. I had never had too much interest in Partners In Time, but when Bowser's Inside Story was announced, I ended up practically marathonning all three games in sequence. I HAVE FANDOM!

Fandom That Inspired The Most Crack: Touhou, definitely Touhou. Vocaloid MIGHT'VE, if I really did any shipping of my own in the fandom, but considering I played two Touhou characters in a Sonic-biased RP... I'd say that Sakuya and Antoine D'Coolette being cooking buddies and fellow knife nuts is pretty bad, but Remilia wanting to keep werewolf!Sonic as a guard dog is just adorable and wrong and awesome.

Last Fandom of 2009: Yume Nikki was a flash-in-the-pan for me, so the award will have to go to Nostalgia. No, it doesn't have an actual fandom of any sort of regard, but it won me over, even if it was retardedly, stupidly oldschool in some of the worst ways possible and was basically a poor man's Skies of Arcadia.
