There's no way I could really sum this up in a single paragraph, so I'm just copy-pasting from my chatlog with
bossgoji.
(1:37:57 PM)
swordianmaster: Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure.
(1:38:09 PM)
swordianmaster: Get it if you love awesome.
(1:39:00 PM)
swordianmaster: ...It's a platformer/match-3 puzzle hybrid. It's a lot Better Than It Sounds, even if it does get Nintendo Hard later.
(1:39:45 PM)
swordianmaster: It's about, basically, a Magical McGuffin suit of Gentleman Adventurer.
(1:43:15 PM)
swordianmaster: A bowler hat, vest, pipe, coinpurse, and moustache.
(1:43:18 PM)
swordianmaster: all made of gold.
(1:43:38 PM)
swordianmaster: More notably?
(1:43:48 PM)
swordianmaster: You can turn into a giant robot that is apparently powered by tea time.
(1:47:07 PM)
swordianmaster: Oh, and to further my point?
(1:47:24 PM)
swordianmaster: (To quote from 'Quintessential British Gentleman' page on tropes:)
Taken to comical extremes in the Adventurer Archaeologist, monocle-wearing, mustache-bearing, tea-guzzling protagonist of the game Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure. When he drinks tea, he summons a giant robot to help him. Yep, this is a Western Widget Series, alright...
* The voice natter that accompanies his dialog is literally nothing but an endless series of 'pip-pip, cheerio'-style sounds. No words, just raw unadulterated Britishness. The rest of the cast encompasses the various variations on this trope; his archnemesis, for instance, is the Upper Class Twit fond of Steampunk death machines.
(1:47:43 PM)
bossgoji: ...
(1:47:44 PM)
bossgoji: Wow.
(1:47:55 PM)
bossgoji: PIP-PIP
(1:48:06 PM)
bossgoji: OH YES *clears throat* CODSWALLOP, I SAY
(1:49:21 PM)
swordianmaster: Actually, it's not often pip-pip. It's more of the "generic British bluster" variety of Simlish.
(1:50:09 PM)
bossgoji: Aaaah. So the "harumph mrmble mrmble" school.
(1:50:18 PM)
swordianmaster: Yes.
(1:50:35 PM)
bossgoji: Okay, wow.
(1:50:41 PM)
bossgoji: Tetris Attack plus Drill Dozer.
(1:50:44 PM)
bossgoji: I could dig this.
(1:50:57 PM)
swordianmaster: ...Yeah, that's basically what it is.
(1:51:59 PM)
swordianmaster: You basically have to swap back and forth in order to recharge your Super Meter and get rid of enemies For Good, as well as get powerups. Thankfully, switching to the Tetris Attack side of thing pauses the platforming, though not vice versa - the blocks still scroll when you're platforming.
(1:52:25 PM)
swordianmaster: The problem is?
(1:52:30 PM)
swordianmaster: It gets... brutal.
(1:52:36 PM)
swordianmaster: Surprise Difficulty, but for the most part fair.
(1:53:03 PM)
bossgoji: Which, I can probably handle.
(1:53:11 PM)
bossgoji: I beat IWBTG and Mega Man 9.
(1:53:17 PM)
swordianmaster: Yeah.
(1:54:12 PM)
swordianmaster: But really? It's fun, it's Warioesque in its goal (Ultimately? "grab loot") and it's the most tongue in cheek affectionate parody of the Quintessential British Gentleman/Adventurer Archaeologist tropes I've seen ever.
(2:11:36 PM)
swordianmaster: But still. The aforementioned Giant Robot Tea Time? (better known as the game's Super Mode)
(2:12:24 PM)
swordianmaster: Starts with a leitmotif of Mozart's Rondo Alla Turca (Youtube it, you'll recognize the song) done in piano... quickly segueing into the same in electric guitar. <3
(2:29:16 PM)
swordianmaster: ....
(2:29:27 PM)
bossgoji: ?
(2:30:28 PM)
swordianmaster: I am being attacked by a black widow (the marriage type, not the spider type) riding a super-goth wedding cake. She is shooting me with skull bullets fired out of a man with a top hat.
(2:31:01 PM)
bossgoji: ...w-wow
(2:32:32 PM)
swordianmaster: aaand she's shooting me with exploding champagne bottles.
(2:45:35 PM)
swordianmaster: Yeah. It's...
(2:45:42 PM)
swordianmaster: Americans can do Widget games, too.
(2:50:16 PM)
swordianmaster: And it's got to be the only game that Electronic Arts has made in the past forever that I like.
