Johnny is so hardly a character that it's not funny. To be honest, his entire gimmick is "I'm not Metal Sonic, honest". In fact, I've taken to calling him Not Metal Sonic.
And I believe my favorite nickname for Silver is Mary Sue The Hedgehog.

Really, Silver is just a gigantic joke. Not even in the "unintentionally funny" way Shadow is. It's more the trainwreck, "I can't believe I'm laughing at this poor retard I'm a horrible person" sort of joke that you get from, say, watching Manos: The Hands of Fate.
