Just looking at videos of the PS2 original (aka the "original" mode, assumedly), animations and combat flow is a lot smoother in Leifthrasir. I'm seeing a lot of jumps and jerks in between movements, that sort of thing you get when your character has too many frames of animation and no actual way of interrupting them? The overall flow of the game feels better in Leifthrasir.
Not sure about the underlying inventory flow and how that's any different.
I hear the PS2 game had a few slowdown issues, too, but that's just secondhand word of mouth.
