This.... sounds like an incredibly strained metaphor for what it's like being someone or something that society doesn't approve of.
Your journey through the game is a confusing, frustrating, exhausting slog where nothing ever gives you a break and the prize at the end is an utter lack of any tangible reward. You're constantly impeded by unavoidable assholes whose demands seem unfathomable and whose own appearance you must adopt in order to continue. And then the whole thing turns out to be a massive waste of time in the end.
