DAMN YOU, INDILEE
...yeah. SWORD IS DOING ONE OF THOSE 30 DAY MEMES TOO. Snagged from

DAY 1: Your Current Favorite Game

I waffled on this for a little while, thinking of the games I've been playing, watching, and wanting to play lately, and I settled on this. This is the first game in ages where pirating it felt blatantly wrong, where I bought the game because it WAS that good, and where I've never ONCE considered pawning it for a quick buck. (Also, unlike CrossworDS, it doesn't put me to sleep reliably.)
It's fifty small vignettes of musical fun, and you can blitz through it in a single day, but I keep playing it, even though I've played every single song repeatedly. Ladies and gentlemen, Rhythm Heaven.
The original GBA game, Rhythm Tengoku, never came out over here since it was basically the Kirby's Dream Land 3 of the GBA era - the last in-house designed game for the system in Japan, even after Mother 3, it wasn't ported because execs didn't think the GBA was still popular, instead throwing their full focus on the Nintendo DS. In turn, the game we got is actually the sequel, Rhythm Tengoku Gold.
It's basically Rhythm Game Lite; instead of having to memorize a distinct sequence of buttons or finagles, Rhythm Heaven has exactly three 'things' to do:
1) Tap touch screen.
2) Hold down stylus on touch screen and/or scribble-rub.
3) "Flick", which works exactly like it sounds - hold down the stylus and then do a quick movement across the touch screen while releasing it.
You then do these things to a variety of tasks, ranging from mundane (playing ping-pong) to batshit-wtf (slicing vegetables as a goddamn dog ninja and helping high school students discover the literal chemistry of love) and everything in between. This's made by the Wario Ware peeps, and it shows, really, in its embrace of the strange. Every few stages, in fact, it slams the stages together in a "remix" that throws various snippets of the stages at you almost like its more minigame-oriented predecessor.
It's a very casual game, and very pick-up-and-play, but surprisingly addictive. I'd recommend it to anyone with a love for rhythm games, especially if, like me and
indilee, you don't have a lot of free time.
